The TAP financial administrator guarantees that he did not interfere in the process leading to the departure of Alexandra Reis from the board of directors of the carrier. Gonzalo Pires confirms what he said to the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) during an audit that relieved him of responsibility for the decision, the illegality of which led to the process of dismissing the executive president and chairman of TAP.
Faced with the record of what he told the IGF MP Paulo Moniz of the PSD, who asked him to correct or confirm it, Gonçalo Pires emphasizes and confirms: “I did not participate in the preparation, development, negotiation, decision or closing of any value.” The CFO, who is being heard by TAP’s parliamentary commission of inquiry on public administration, admits, however, that the agreement to leave Alexandra Reis was communicated to him by executive chairman Christine Urmier-Widener days before the official announcement and communication, but without details.
The IGF does not know if the TAP financial administrator (retained in the audit) was aware of the amount paid to Alexandra Reis.
That is, it confirms Paulo Moniz that prior to the February 4 email revealed by the IGF audit, there was anecdotal evidence in which he was formally notified of the administrator’s departure and the terms of the resignation notice sent to the Securities Market Commission, in which the exit is classified as a failure.
Gonçalo Pires also acknowledges that the departure of Alexandra Reis did not come as a surprise, as the conflicting positions of the administrator who held a seat on the board of directors and the change in the shareholder structure with the departure of Humberto Pedrosa, a private shareholder, have already been expressed. , after which he left his appointed non-executive director, Silva Rodriguez. Alexandra Reis was also named this shareholder (and even opened the position days before the executive president asked the supervisory board to remove her).
Alexandra Reis gave Pedro Nuno the job just days before he gave TAP the green light to negotiate his departure.
The CFO also admits that he was informed that there would be changes in the administrative team, but he only remembers offers or contacts to find a replacement after the administrator leaves.
The fact that he had informal knowledge does not change the fact that he did not participate, and confirms: “I did not make and did not help make decisions.” And he guarantees he didn’t talk about the administrator’s departure with Miguel Reis, the then finance minister who ran TAP.
The CFO confirms that he is a friend of Galamba who asked for instructions for a cautious presentation of 2022 results.
Gonzalo Pires confirms that he is a close friend of João Galamba (Minister of Infrastructure), with whom he worked at the faculty and from whom he received instructions on how to present the 2022 results, but after being asked a question. The financial manager agrees that under current conditions sui generis life of the company, the presentation of the results should be as “careful” as possible, although it is recognized that TAP teams and employees would like to make a more public presentation.
In a clarification given to Liberal Initiative MP Bernardo Blanco, he indicated that a majority of board members agreed with a low-key approach to results, without specifying whether the executive president also advocated that position.
