IL is once again celebrating November 25 with the “Celebration of Freedom”, which takes place on Saturday in Porto and counts on the participation of the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, with the Constitution being one of the topics discussed.
He told Lusa, the official source of IL, about the program of this “Freedom Celebration”, which is taking place this year for the fifth time in a row, citing that “the only Portuguese party that publicly celebrates two dates who established democracy and freedom in Portugal”, i.e. 25 April and 25 November.
It is at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation in Porto that this initiative will be carried out during the Sabbath day, the purpose of which is to counter the “ideological option of a non-public celebration” on November 25th.
The first panel includes a speech by still IL President João Cotrim Figueiredo and activist Laura Hart, who will discuss “Fight for freedom every day, everywhere”🇧🇷
At a time when Parliament opened the process of revising the constitution, the liberals will discuss “The role of the Constitution as a guarantor of rights, freedoms and guarantees”, a panel in which constitutionalist Teresa Violante and IL Joao Executive Committee member Cayetano Diaz.
“November 25 always!” there will be a debate between the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, the deputy and former president of IL, Carlos Guimarães Pinto, and the president of the Academic Federation of Porto, Ana Cabillas.
Nuno Barata, Azores Legislative Assemblyman from Illinois, will be the speaker for the fourth and final debate of the Festa da Liberdade, a panel in which he will wrap up his two-year tenure under the slogan “A liberal MP in the Azores matters.”
Following the conclusion of the debate, the program of this initiative also includes dinner and socializing at Casa dos Arcos.
