The Health Commission will call the Minister of Health and the Executive Director of the National Health Service (SNS) to Parliament to hear about the closure of maternity hospitals and the reorganization of emergency services.
The requests were submitted by the PCP and Bloco de Esquerda and were unanimously approved this Wednesday, commission chairman António Malo de Abreu told Lusa.
In a statement, the PCP demanded an urgent hearing involving Minister of Health Manuel Pizarro, SNS Executive Director Fernando Araujo and the National Federation of Physicians regarding reorganization of the emergency gynecological and obstetric care servicein the area of Lisbon and the Tagus valley, psychiatric emergency services at the national level and the reorganization of the general emergency services.
Bloco de Esquerda, on the other hand, demanded in its request for an urgent hearing in Manuel Pizarro’s case “over the closure of maternity hospitals and serious problems in the operation of general emergency services.”
According to Malo de Abreu, the application filed by Chega’s party in urgent hearing of the Director-General of Health, Graça Freitas, “give clarifications on the overall balance of work performed; about the profile of the next CEO of Health; on the balance and lessons learned from the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and on the National Health Plan 2021-2030.”
