Police charge Asha man with attempted murder of his former roommate and face life in prison

Police charged a 35-year-old man from Ash with attempted murder. According to police, he tried to kill a 69-year-old man with whom he used to live. He broke into his house and tried to suffocate him with a pillow. The police arrested the suspect and he was taken into custody. If the defendant’s guilt is proven, he faces 15 to 20 years in prison or exceptiol punishment, regiol police spokesman Jakub Koprjiva said.

According to the police, on Wednesday, November 2, the accused broke into the family home in Asha, where he lived with its owner. Initially, he wanted to steal money and other valuables.

Entering the house, he attacked the sleeping owner and injured his upper body. When the attacker woke up, the attacker laid him down and tried to suffocate him with a pillow. He only stopped when the 69-year-old began playing dead, fearing for his life, Koprjiva said.

Subsequently, the defendant stole a metal box containing documents and money from the room. He also took a mobile phone from the bedside table.

A few minutes later, when the victim was convinced that the 35-year-old man left the house, he went to the neighbors for help. They called an ambulance, which took him to the hospital after treatment, a police spokesman said.

Detectives detained a 35-year-old man on Wednesday, November 16. He was charged with attempted murder and trespassing. The judge accepted the offer of detention, Koprjiva added.
