Green meadows around, high temperature and almost complete absence of wind. Bavarian Ruhpolding offered such conditions in Wednesday’s endurance race. The salty strip of the snow-covered track looked more like a landmark from aerial photography.
Czech number one Michal Krčmarz entered the track early at number 8 and delighted Czech fans for a long time. Although he was traditiolly not good enough for Norwegian speedsters, he kept up with his accurate shooting. On skis this was not the case, but in the end the ski jump earned Krčmarž more valuable points in SP.
In addition, there was a curious moment when the power went out in Ruhpolding for several minutes, which happened just at the moment when the Krcmarzh was approaching the fil shot. “I tried to shoot calmly. Not bad for one, but it gws at me a little. I went for four zeros,” said Krcmar at the finish line.
At the same time, however, conditions in Ruhpolding were not easy and Krcmar also commented on the aforementioned blackout. “It was a typical Ruhpolding, such dashing snow that you stagger on. It’s more like a ski dance. The power outage surprised me when I arrived at the shooting range, it was dark everywhere and the targets were dark. I tried not to notice it, but the visibility got a little worse. But it didn’t have much of an effect on shooting. More like curiosity, ”added the first number of the Czech.
Despite the difficulties at the last shooting range, Krčmar kept the top 10 in 8th place, which he achieved for the third time this season.
Not many other Czechs were seen. Adam Watzlawick made six mistakes on the shooting range, Jakub Stvrtecki four times and they didn’t score. At the same time, Stvrtecki returned to the SP carousel after a short illness. “Right after the race, I told Michal that I had a stomachache, that I couldn’t eat spaghetti carbora for lunch, that I should only eat clean pasta like always, and congratulated Michal. We also discussed power outages, which don’t happen all that often,” said Švrtecki, who admitted he still had trouble breathing after his illness.
For a change, illness prevented Jos Marechek from taking part in the endurance race in Germany, which was replaced by Witezslav Hornig. But even he did not score points in the race due to three misses on the track.
Phantom of the season Johannes Thingnes Boe from Norway once again rejoiced at the victory, his compatriot Vetle Sjastad Kristiansen finished second. The Norwegian block in the first places was disturbed by the Slovenian veteran Jakov Fak, who took an imagiry bronze.
The Biathlon World Championship will continue in Ruhpolding, Germany, on Thursday with the women’s endurance race at 14:10.
