The electricity is out, and the only movement in the tunnels is service trains, the so-called muvkas, which deliver the installers to the repair sites. This time is the only time when you can work in the tunnel and not restrict public transport.

A strange feeling when we jump over the rails and sleepers and go further along the tunnel from the Vyshegrad stop across the Nuselsky bridge towards the I.P. Pavlova station. Despite the fact that we know that the electricity is out and that no train will run on our tracks, we are constantly on the alert. While we don’t have to worry about getting run over by the subway, there are still plenty of opportunities to trip, fall and get dirty.
The bowels of the Nuselsky bridge are a kind of exhibition part of the subway. Everything is clean, although the frets are origil oak, they require frequent maintence. But once we get deeper into the subway underground, the environment takes on exactly the adventurous feel you’d expect. And no, the other branch of the tunnel does not lead to an atomic shelter or the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Czech Republic, as lovers of mysticism would certainly like.
