Interesting news spread around the world on Tuesday. Literally a few hours after the termination of the contract with Cristiano Ronaldo (37), the owners of the famous Manchester club confirmed their intention to sell it. United is still a highly regarded brand, so speculation about potential suitors immediately began. One of the names mentioned is the legendary midfielder David Beckham (47), who is closely associated with United.

The English football legend boasts a fortune of about 370 million pounds (about ten and a half billion crowns). However, this will not be enough for the entire acquisition, so the only option is to join forces with others. He is reportedly close to becoming a member of a consortium that could seek a takeover. The most important participant and driving force in this case will be the richest man in the UK, Jim Ratcliffe.

The phenomenal midfielder spent almost a decade at Old Trafford, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League. He also scored 85 goals and 109 assists in 388 games under Sir Alex Ferguson. He eventually left for Real Madrid in 2003, but remains an icon in Manchester and therefore could benefit the fans of the new owners.

The Glazer family owners value the club at around £6-8bn. However, wealthy Ratcliffe, a huge Manchester United fan, is reportedly unwilling to pay more than £5bn for the club. Other potential buyers reportedly include businessmen Josh Harris and David Blitzer, or the pairing Steven Paluca and Larry Tanenbaum.
