The tragedy occurred in the center of Bratislava. This is the death of squash player and Slovak representative Miroslav Zeller (†31), who fell down the stairs in a bar at about 2 am on Saturday so badly that he died. Police have launched an investigation into a possible criminal homicide.

The news of the tragedy shortly after the fatal fall was confirmed by representatives of the Slovak Squash Association. “It is with sadness that we inform you that Miroslav Zeller died today in an accident. He was a great athlete and friend, but above all a wonderful husband and father.” it’s on the association’s Facebook page. “We express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Mirek. they added.

Another man fell down the stairs with Zeller. He survived a terrible accident and was taken to the hospital.

The police immediately started investigating the case. They were called to the Bratislava club on Saturday until half past three in the morning. But by that time, Seller could not be helped by anything. “At the moment, all necessary actions are being taken to clarify this event. The Commissioner of the District Office of PZ Bratislava I opened a criminal case on the fact of committing the crime of murder”, she declared.

Teammate mourns

The news of his sudden death also greatly affected his teammates and opponents. One of them is Marek Manik, who has known Zeller for many years. “I read this on the Internet on a Sunday morning and it shocked me deeply,” Maniku is quoted by Nový Čas daily. “We knew each other very well, he was a great person on and off the court. In squash he was one of the best in Slovakia. He was one of those honest players that you want to play against. Now I think mostly of his family, for whom it must be something terrible.”

Manik believes that no one else was behind the tragedy. “I don’t know anything about someone throwing him down the stairs. It was probably just an unfortunate coincidence. However, no one in our circles knows exactly how it happened.”

They also spoke sharply with the Secretary General of the Slovak Squash Association, David Kubitschok. “He was an exemplary representative of Slovakia, a talented athlete and an honest and decent guy off the court. Educated and happily married. he said to the New Hour. He then paused and then added that he would no longer receive himself at that sad moment.

What is the atmosphere like in this bar? At the time when one of the Slovak editors went to the site, they were closed, and the image of a burning candle was symbolically pasted on the door. One of the employees with tears in her eyes noted that she did not want to comment on anything. Police are investigating the fatal fall of a squash player.
