The best scorer ever to live in Spain. This is how fans and those around them remember Jorge Ballesteros (†39), until recently the world champion in shooting. A few days ago, he died from severe injuries in the hospital. What really happened?

The winner of the IPSC Handgun World Shoot 2017 in the Open category was found in the Spanish capital Madrid in a car with a bullet in his head.but still showed signs of life! Therefore, he was immediately transferred to the local La Paz hospital, where, unfortunately, he died a day later. Jorge worked as a police officer in Madrid, so he was close to arms not only at races, but also at work. How and why he received such an injury is still unknown.

Farewell social network

“Jorge Ballesteros, the best shooter in Spain, has left us forever at the age of 39. The world of sports shooting has fallen into deep sadness.” This is stated in the Twitter account of the Royal Spanish Olympic Shooting Federation. “In 2017, he became Open World Champion and also added three European titles, six Extreme Euro Open triumphs and seventeen Spanish titles.” His French rivals, who have described him as a great sportsman and exceptional person, are also mourning. Czech fans may know him from the Extreme Euro Open tournament held every year in Hodonice near Znojmo.

An experienced Spaniard never made it to the Olympics. Not because he didn’t qualify, but his discipline was not a part of Olympic sports throughout his career. After his death, he was survived by his wife and two children. In addition, his last post on Instagram from the beginning of December has a special flavor. This is his loss of the world title after five years, which was taken by the American Christian Siler. “Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn” — he wrote under the photos from the competition. We can say that he said goodbye not only to the title, but also to the world.
