According to Italian media, the man under the wheels of the unsuspecting Loprize is Livio Fassinotti from the town of None, which is located about 20 kilometers from Turin. He reportedly went to Dakar because he loved Africa, mountains, cycling and photography. His last passion also became fatal when, unfortunately, he stood right behind the dune, where the crew of the Czech car did not have time to see anyone.

“He was a good man, athletic and very skilled” Gian Paolo Quaglino, owner of a travel agency in Vigone, spoke about the man, according to the La Stampa website. “He loved to observe the landscape and shoot it like a good amateur photographer. He told me that he was leaving for Dakar in Arabia.” Kualino said.

Another friend, Roberto Vincelli, also commented on the dead man: “Your passion for the dunes is proverbial, and on that fantastic trip in late 1988, you took your skis and boots to try the unconventional descent on the Algerian sand. Wish you more dunes in paradise deserts. Farewell, friend Livio.

Italian websites also report that the man did volunteer work and was the author of several books.

Fassinotti died after being hit by a passing car by Alyosha Loprais. The Italian allegedly tried to photograph his “Lady”, but chose a very dangerous place for this. Although he survived the collision with the car, he suffered a heart attack about three hours later and died on the way to a hospital in Riyadh.

The Czech participant then posted a video on social media in which he describes the whole event from his point of view and also provided an onboard footage. It was clear from the statement that although he himself could not have prevented the collision, the tragedy had affected him psychologically. In addition, due to the investigation, he had to withdraw from the race, which he did very well until the fateful moment.
