The Navy escorted the passage of a Russian ship off the coast of Portugal

The Portuguese Navy announced this Sunday that from Monday to Saturday it was escorting, using naval means, the passage off the national coast of a Russian Federation ship coming from the North Sea.

According to the Portuguese Navy, the António Enes corvette, “performing a maritime patrol and surveillance mission in the area of ​​the Portuguese mainland, was involved in escorting the Russian Federation scientific vessel Akademik Alexander Karpinsky” during its transit through Portugal. water”.

On October 28 last year, the Armed Forces already announced an operation to escort the passage of another scientific vessel of the Russian Federation, the Academician Boris Petrov, in Portuguese waters.

The note of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GSHVVS) sent to the press then stated that the passage of the Russian ship “off the coast of the country” was carried out by “the means of the Navy, which are part of the System of National Forces.” .

The EMGFA also took the opportunity to point out that it is “a normal procedure for monitoring maritime areas under national sovereignty or jurisdiction whenever warships from non-NATO countries enter Portuguese waters.”
